What Is Salesforce Labs? Free AppExchange Apps You’ll Actually Use

Pardot

I’m a massive fan of the Salesforce Labs program – I’ve lost count of the times I’ve been searching through their solutions and found an absolute gem to take advantage of.

In this post, I will explain what Salesforce Labs is, the reasons why you should use Salesforce Labs, and my all-time favorite apps!

What Is Salesforce Labs?

For those who don’t already know, Salesforce Labs is an awesome program inside Salesforce for employees to share the apps they create in the AppExchange for everyone to take advantage of!

Side note on the AppExchange:

AppExchange is an online marketplace for Salesforce apps, components, and consulting services. If you’re a Lightning Platform developer or consultant, the AppExchange is the gateway for connecting customers to your business solution. It’s just like the Apple Store but for your Salesforce org, full of great apps ready off-the-shelf for you to configure.

Back to Salesforce Labs – not only all of the above, but the apps from this program are free and open-source!

Boring disclaimer: Salesforce Labs apps are not official salesforce.com products.

Why Salesforce Labs?

Salesforce Labs has more than 250 solutions available in the AppExchange – from onboarding to utilities that manage batch jobs and everything in between.

We have already enjoyed some great tools from the Salesforce Labs, like the Optimizer Report, which started life as a Salesforce Lab app and now is part of the core application, as is the Magic Mover of Notes and Attachments.

Looking at things that have come up recently, in my mind, the Salesforce Labs acts as an extension of market research. It allows employees of Salesforce to release a minimum viable product (MVP) to market, see how it behaves, get earlier feedback, adapt earlier, and gather data to potentially add it into the products.

Graphics Pack

Everyone needs this app – it’s so simple and adds so much! Graphics Pack contains hundreds of images and icons you can use when creating tabs, image formulas, and Visualforce pages.

My Salesforce Trust Monitor

My Salesforce Trust Monitor is a massive time saver. The process of going to the Salesforce Trust site, searching for your org instance – all to see when the next release will be hitting your org. And that’s not taking into account if you don’t know your org instance! One click using this app takes you right to the page you need to see all the important information you need.

Multi-Org Security Summary

Analyze and manage security across all of your Salesforce orgs. Multi-Org Security Summary gives you the ability to manage and support security settings across multiple environments natively on Salesforce.

AppExchange Dashboard Pack for Sales, Marketing, and Service

This is the ultimate starter pack for any admin wanting to get some dashboards up and running in no time at all. Seven pre-built dashboards for Sales, Marketing, and Support, giving you instant visibility to your entire Salesforce org.

Permissions Manager

Permission Manager is an admin app that helps in providing permissions to multiple fields and profiles at once.

Getting Started Email Bundle

This one is specific to those who use Marketing Cloud Account Engagement (previously Pardot). These commonly used email templates for Lightning email builder can be used as either standalone sends or part of a larger journey welcoming your new prospects.

Flow Error Handling

Flow Error Handling helps admins quickly see where a flow error occurred. The template includes an example flow that sends information to a subflow, which emails the admin and current running user when faults occur.

Lightning Messaging Utility

Whether you’re a Salesforce Admin or Developer, the way you deliver messages to your users is key to building a user-friendly app! Lightning Messaging Utility gives you the tools you need to build clean and consistent messages at all times!

Lightning Mockup Components

This is a suite of components that help you create ‘digital paper prototypes’ to help you and your customers quickly envision what the Lightning Experience could be for them.

orgLimits

This handy Lightning component gives you org-wide usage/limit using System.OrgLimits.getMap(), including a progress bar.

In-App Guidance: Boost Service User Productivity in Lightning Experience

Salesforce asked the Trailblazer Community for a wishlist of In-App Guidance prompts to drive the adoption of the most time-saving features in Lightning Experience. This package includes prompts for the top five requests.

Action Plans v4

Action Plans encapsulate best practices into reusable task templates. With this new version, Action Plans can be created for any standard or custom object, and can now be created using Flow or Apex! See the description below for all the new features.

Agile Accelerator

In brief, the Agile Accelerator is a slice of what Salesforce uses internally to build their products. It allows you to ‘build Salesforce’ using Salesforce – what a great way to lead by example to your users!
